Why I Hate Ted Kennedy

Thirty six years ago, Mary Jo Kopechne died/was killed (depending on how you look at it). This piece from NRO from last year is worth reading again.

He should be in prison.

Are you from Massachusetts? Are you older than say 50? Why was he allowed to skate do you think? What do you hope to gain from this obsession? He'll be gone soon enough. No prison time for Kennedy's boys in this state. OK?

A Drunken fool who used his family name to play politics when he should have used his influance in the yaught clubs and golf clubs he was more suited for. The damage he caused this nation will never be repaired. idiots over the land have a president to pretend to have something of value to inject. Good riddens Teddy Boy!!

Senator Edward Kennedy was the epitome of everything that is amiss with American politics. Without fail he put party interests before those of the nation and the American people.
Although his personal life was a sham and he was a moral reprobate, he still could not stop himself from condescending to others at every opportunity. Not particularly bright, not particularly articulate, without his family name and fortune he would have sunken into alcoholic anonymity years ago.
Yet there was seemingly never a time when he wasn’t willing to grandstand and he took every opportunity to monopolize the limelight. His skillful self-aggrandizing was amazing to behold.
His guiding doctrine seemed to be that Teddy (and his prestigious senate seat) came first, the Kennedy clan second, cronies, sycophants and suck-ups third, and the scraps were left over for the nation that he so proudly “served.”
He showed throughout his career, but particularly in the case of the senate confirmation hearings for Robert Bork, a willingness to stoop to any level of personal attack, spitefulness, and pettiness. He was willing to attack below the belt on a whim. Although personally a proven and reprehensible coward, the “Kennedy Machine” systematically bullied their way through any opposition with Teddy at the helm.
Perhaps the only thing truly interesting about the man was the dichotomy in his character that allowed him serve equally well as a dictatorial taskmaster or, if and when that position was unavailable, his willingness to be a servile lapdog lackey for those in higher positions.
His hypocrisy knew no bounds. Despite his crocodile tears for the poor and displaced he continued to the end to live a life of conspicuous consumption and excess. Bloated and red-faced, he never missed an opportunity to strut along the corridors of D.C. or to be seen at the helm of one of his many yachts sailing off Hyannis Port. (Although the perennial liberal do-gooder he still bridled viscously at the very idea of having wind turbines generating “clean” electricity for the masses anywhere near where he liked to sail…)
In failing health, even though he had known for a long while that his prognoses was poor, that he was old, ineffectual, and unable to complete his sworn duty, he still refused to relinquish the reins of power and selfishly held on till the bitter end without regard for what was best for his state and his country. In the final days of his existence this nasty old man played politics, trying to reverse a state law which is was originally championed by him, in order to make sure that Massachusetts had a democrat in line to replace him.
“Ted the Toad” was the embodiment of the old cliché that, “Only the good die young.”
Those of us who are sickened at the media’s sycophantic adulation of this pitiful excuse for a “statesman” can take solace in knowing this: He is finally dead and America is better for it.

For anyone who has wondered what became of the Kopechne family, here is an article from the "Pocono Record" that was published today:

Pocono family was center of Kennedy Chappaquidick controversy

August 27,2009

A Pocono family lost their daughter in a tragic accident at Chappaquiddick, in a car driven by Sen. Edward Kennedy in 1969.

Mary Jo Kopechne's parents moved to the Poconos after her death in 1969. She was the passenger in a car driven by Sen. Edward Kennedy on Chappaquidick Island, Mass., on July 19, 1969, when the car ran off a bridge into Poucha Pond. Kennedy escaped the accident and Kopechne drowned. The accident happened shortly after the pair left a party together sometime after 11 p.m.

Kopechnie, 28, was a secretary at the time.

The Kopechnies lived in New Jersey at the time of their daughter's death. In 1973 they moved back to Pennsylvania and lived in Laurel Springs in Swiftwater for 28 years until they moved to East Stroudsburg, according to Pocono Record archives.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Kopechnes received a $141,000 settlement from Kennedy's insurance company after their daughter's death.

Gwen L. Kopechne died Dec. 20, 2007. She was 89 and was living in Valley Crest Nursing Home in Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Edwardsville, she was raised in the Wilkes-Barre area and was married to Joseph Kopechne for more than 60 years.

She was a homemaker throughout her life and much loved by many relatives and friends, according to her obituary. The obituary mentions Gwen and Joe's only child, MaryJo Kopechne, who predeceased her in 1969.

Joseph A. Kopechne was 90 when he died on Dec. 24, 2003, in Stroud Manor Nursing Home in East Stroudsburg.

Born in Forty Fort, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935 and 1936. During World War II, he worked at the shipyards in New Jersey.

He worked for Washington National Life Insurance Company most of his life and lived in New Jersey during that period. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and attended Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Tannersville.

God Bless the Kopechnes and may they find peace in Heaven that they undoubtedly were unable to find here on earth.
